Vision
A society where persons with disabilities fully enjoy their rights
A society where persons with disabilities fully enjoy their rights
Fostering inclusivity, and providing opportunities for full participation in society.
We are advocates of the rights-model of disability. We utilize innovative programming such as use of technology and capacity building to ensure that persons with disabilities from pastoralist regions fully understand and enjoy their rights.
We believe that, to realise an inclusive society, persons with disabilities must challenge the power systems and push for accountability of ‘holders of power’ to play their role in ensuring that they – PWDs – fully enjoy their rights and are included in the society.
Essentially, we champion disability rights that enables persons with disabilities from our areas of operation and indeed Kenya realise disability inclusion.
The organization will work towards the realization of the following objectives:
Under this, we challenge persons with disabilities to raise their voice. In pastoralist regions with decades of neglect and marginalisation, voice is a powerful tool of realization of persons with disabilities’ rights.
We educate persons with disabilities on their rights, why they need to participate in governance and indeed, whey their voice matter.
We anchor our interventions to the Constitution of Kenya 2010, Persons With Disabilities Act 2003, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, among other instruments.
This is our core advocacy intervention. The northern region is vast and sparsely populated. This inhibits programming e.g engagement meetings. Under this, we leverage on technology to educate persons with disabilities.
Our current research focus is to develop engagement tools and platform leverage on innovations such as social media platforms, Apps, Industry 4.0 such Internet of Things to power advocacy especially among young people with disabilities in our region. This is the only way to reach a vast area with multiple needs.
Access to information is a right guaranteed in the Constitution of Kenya. Internet access, too, is a human rights according to the United Nations. We have been advocating for provision of internet access in our region as an enabler of service provision. We have also been advocating for government and county government agencies as well as other players in our area to provide accessible technologies that will ensure persons with disabilities especially in pastoralist regions get digital services. It, therefore, means their ability to access information from government platforms e.g websites, E – Citizen, information in easy to read formats, among others.
